Short Abstract:

In this webinar we will outline new features and important functionalities in TURBOdesign Suite 5.2 including TURBOdesign Volute and important functionalities implemented in TURBOdesign cfd, TURBOdesign1 and TURBOdesign Optima.

  • TURBOdesign Volute a unique 2D inverse design method for volutes which allows designers to take into account an inflow variation within the volute circumference. The code supports specification of standard or arbitrary cross section shapes and outputs a smooth and clean IGES Surface file which is ready for meshing in your preferred environment.
  • TURBOdesign CFD enhancements and additional capabilities including compressible flows applications and additional turbulence models such as one equation Spalart-Allmaras and two-equations Wilcox’s k-ω with Parallel / Multi-Core capabilities. Dedicated summaries for specific turbomachinery applications and capabilities to extract the loading distribution of existing blade as TURBOdesign1 input *.ld file.
  • TURBOdesign1 new tonal noise model based on Ffowcs-William Hawkins model which uses surface pressure from TURBOdesign1 to compute the thickness and loading noise from the blade.
  • TURBOdesign Optima new capabilities for independent and concurrent optimization of the splitter blades for multi-point, multi-objective or multi-disciplinary optimization of turbomachinery components featuring splitters such as compressors and pumps.

Prof Mehrdad Zangeneh

About the author: The webinar will be presented by Mehrdad Zangeneh who is Professor of Thermofluids at University College London and Founding Director of Advanced Design Technology, Ltd. For the past 26 years he has been involved in development of advanced turbomachinery design codes based on 3D inverse design approach and automatic optimization to turbomachinery design. His research has resulted in important breakthroughs in turbomachinery and marine propulsor design. He has been granted 6 international patents. In 2000, he was awarded the Japan’s Turbomachinery Society’s Gold Medal and in 2003 he was awarded the Donald Julius Grone Prize by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in UK.
