TURBOdesign Suite is a unique aerodynamic and hydrodynamic 3D design package for all types of turbomachinery blades such as pumps, compressors, fans, turbines and torque converters that uses the same 3D inverse design based process to rapidly achieve optimum performance.

Unique 3D inverse design process that uses fluid dynamics to directly generate optimum blade shape

Unlike traditional "direct” design methods that rely on trial and error between a given geometry and flow field predicted by CFD codes, the unique 3D Inverse design process developed by ADT starts from the perspective of what you want to do to the fluid flow in terms of 3D pressure field and mathematically derives the optimal geometry to achieve that outcome.

Direct control of 3D pressure field results in innovative designs

The relationship between geometry and flow field is governed by Navier-Stokes equations and is highly non-linear. Hence designers using traditional “direct” design tend to stay in their comfort zone and hence limit the design space. Our 3D inverse design technology allows us to explore a large design space based on specified pressure loading and create geometries that always satisfy the required duty points in terms of flow rate and specific work.

Think in 3D and apply design inputs in 3D to solve difficult flow problems

Most difficult problems in turbomachinery are governed by 3D flow phenomena such as secondary flows, corner separations, tip clearance flow, cavitation, and shock. All conventional “ direct” design are based on designing in 2D sections from hub to shroud that are then stacked together to create the 3D blade shape. TURBOdesign uses inputs such as spanwise work distribution, blade loading on the whole meridional plane and stacking condition that allow you to directly influence 3D flow phenomena.

Making "expert design" a transferable skill

Optimum choice of design inputs for a particular flow phenomena such as cavitation, shock control, secondary flow has generality from one application to another. This means that non-experts can use the tools effectively with minimal initial guidance and still achieve designs with best in class efficiency.

Unique platform for multi-point, multi-disciplinary optimization

TURBOdesign Suite provides a unique platform for rapid and accurate multi-point/multi-disciplinary optimization of all types of turbomachinery by using blade loading to “parametrize” the blade. Typically only 4-5 design parameters are all that is needed to explore the 3D design space for a given blade row. Accurate surrogate models for aero and structural parameters can be created with 20-30 geometries in the design table.
